The Curriculum

Mommy & Me  2 Years of Age                                                                                                                                         A wonderful way to introduce your child to dance. The class is 45 minutes with ballet and tap.  The parent participates and assists the young student.  Student attire- pink leotard, pink tights, white leather ballet shoes and white tyette patent tap shoes. 

Creative Movement Preschool  3-4 Years of Age
A fun, imaginative and perfect dance class for your toddler.  The teachers incorporate the basics including the dance terminology of ballet and tap.  The creative movement class is 1 hour in length and it is offered every day of the week. The student attends class without the parent.  Student attire - pink leotard, pink tights, pink leather ballet shoes and caramel Mary Jane tap shoes. 

Combination Classes  5-7 Years of Age
A fun yet basic skill building dance class that combines two or three dance subjects.  We offer the following options.  Ballet, tap, jazz  class, a ballet, gym, jazz class and a hip hop, jazz class.  These  classes keep your dance student interested while having a fun time.  Student attire- black leotard, pink or  caramel tights.  Ballet—pink leather ballet slippers.  Tap–caramel  Mary Jane tap shoes. Jazz– caramel pull on jazz boot.  Jazz Gym-  Black leotard, black dance shorts or black dance pants, convertible or stirrup caramel tights.  Caramel pull on jazz boot.  Hip Hop/Jazz– Black leotard caramel tights, dance shorts or dance pants with a caramel jazz boot.

The Curriculum - 8 & Up

Ballet 
Ballet is the foundation of dance.  Through ballet all other dance forms may be found. Classical ballet forms are taught from beginner through to advanced. Students are also given the opportunity to experience ballet as they perform during our annual recital. 
Student attire- All students must wear a bun cover/net with all hair secured.   No dangling jewelry.  Pink tights and pink leather ballet shoes.  Leotard colors will depend on your class level.   Level 1 a mint cap sleeve leotard, w/ a mint skirt.  Level 2 a lavender cap sleeve leotard.  Upon teacher approval;  Level 3 a camisole leotard light blue with a  wrap skirt.  Level 4 a front pinch camisole dark rose leotard with a wrap skirt.  
Students interested in pointe may discuss with the teacher the process and length of time to be introduced to the pre pointe  ballet class.  Specific dance wear available at the Academy. 

Pre-Pointe*
A primary introduction to working in your  pointe shoes.  The student must have learned basic technique and legs and feet are proficiently developed in ballet.  Student must attend ballet 2 days a week.   The student will be given the opportunity upon teacher recommendation.

Pointe *
Class for the advanced ballet student.  Performing ballet movements en pointe to achieve use of  the toe while learning an effective series of steps to achieve a sense of lightness and speed.  The student is to wear specific level leotard or black   with pink tights and pink pointe shoes. 

Tap 
Traditional forms, new styles with upbeat and  rhythmic sounds. Percussive footwork, important disciplines for developing the mind  body coordination.  Student attire- a black leotard, black tights, dance shorts or short pants, caramel Mary Jane tap shoes for beginner, caramel tap oxford for intermediate. Teens and seniors caramel junior footlight heel.

Jazz
Fun and challenging, jazz technique has disciplined  warm ups, terminology and routines. Jazz technique incorporates various combinations and different styles.  Student attire- a solid leotard with tights, dance pants or dance shorts and a caramel jazz boot for beginners and a caramel pedini shoe for intermediate to advanced dancers. 

Lyrical
Lyrical is for the intermediate ballet and jazz dancer.              Lyrical holds the song within the movements. Technical combinations show the dancers strength and agility.  A blend of ballet, contemporary and modern.  Student attire-  a solid leotard, foot less or convertible tights and dance paws. Pedini shoe acceptable. 

Jazz/ Gym
Half of the class is tumbling and  flexibility and the other half is a jazz class.  It’s fun to practice rolls,  cartwheels, walkovers etc. with jazz moves.  Student attire- leotard and shorts with convertible or footless tights.  With a caramel jazz boot. 

Hip Hop
Step by step instructions for students wanting that cool urban  feel.  Great  music and fun.  Funky dance steps, up to date music and combinations of hip hop dance.  Leotard / tank top with cargo pants and a black dance sneaker.

Musical Theater/Voice
Strengthen your singing and develop skills using  from a repertoire of musical theater and popular song.  Class includes movement, stage directions, presentation and improvisation.  Attire– t-shirt dance pants with a caramel jazz  boot. 

Class Information

The classes described meet 1 day a week from the months of September to June.  Class time is 1 hour, unless otherwise stated in the description.  You have many classes to choose from.  If you are interested in more than one class we can accommodate your requests.  The annual recital in June will feature each class and their routine.  It is not mandatory that your child participate in the annual recital however, we encourage everyone to join us.  It is the perfect way to include our family and friends and finish out the school year.  This is a  very rewarding experience.  We usually have 4-5 show times.  We do our best to place siblings in the same show although there are no guarantees as 80% of our business is with more than one family member enrolled.  Every Academy student enrolled will be presented with a dance medal on the last day of their class.  Please see our Registration page for registration details.
